Support can come in many forms as a small business owner.

One thing that I’ve learned now that I’m older is to open my heart and mind more to people who have blazed the trails before me. There are always things you can learn in textbooks, and in research, but not every experience is documented.

I had a fantastic weekend this past Saturday (5/18) at the Fresh Thyme in Vadnais Heights for their birthday bash. There were multiple vendors giving out free samples and showcasing new items. Not only were we able to generate more buzz from this event, but we also had a big boost in sales.

What really encapsulated the event for me was meeting Denny, the owner of Jim Dandy Jerky. He’s been on the grind for more than 30 years and when he saw me working the booth, it instantly reminded him of how he started. He politely came over and asked me about my journey, my product, and what my goals were. He shared great tips on ways to manage distribution around the city so I don’t have to do it all, and how to engage more with customers to build a connection. Its people like him in the entrepreneur / small business community that make what we do so great.

The journey is long and hard, but the rewards are real!
